Focus Areas
Internet of Things Innovation
Deploying IoT sensors and community networks to unlock agriculture, climate, and local innovation.
Wireless Planet is at the forefront of driving IoT innovation in Kenya through the deployment and nurturing of a collaborative LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) community. Recognizing the vast potential of affordable, low-power IoT connectivity for rural and urban applications, Wireless Planet has successfully rolled out more than seven community-operated LoRaWAN gateways in key locations, forming the backbone of an open, inclusive network.
These gateways empower local developers, academic groups, and innovators to build and test a wide range of IoT solutions—from environmental monitoring and smart agriculture to asset tracking and community-driven sensing projects—without the high costs and technical barriers traditionally associated with IoT deployments. By fostering a vibrant community around the LoRaWAN infrastructure, Wireless Planet provides training, technical resources, and a collaborative platform where members can share ideas, experiment, and co-create solutions relevant to Kenya’s unique challenges.
This community-centric approach not only accelerates local digital innovation but also ensures that the benefits of IoT are accessible to underserved areas, supporting sustainable development, digital inclusion, and capacity-building across the country.
