Between June and September 2022, Leonard Mabele, while serving as the Research Lead of Wireless Networks at Strathmore University, led studies on coexistence between the incumbents and the opportunity of deploying Wireless Access Systems (WAS)/Radio Local Area Networks (RLANs) in the 6 GHz band in Kenya.
The study involved assessing the coexistence and compatibility for license-exempt devices in the 6 GHz band which is licensed for access by terrestrial and earth-to-space satellite services. The terrestrial services in this case refer to Fixed Services (FS) available in the 5925-7125 MHz band. While evaluating the technical aspects for the opportunity of WAS i.e. Wi-Fi 6E, the study examined the following key variables:
