Fiber Backbone Project - Myanmar

From 2014-2018, members of the Wireless Planet team supported Open Universal Inclusion (fka Advanced Technical Management Co. Ltd), Eager Communications Group, and Myanmar Telecommunications Network Public Company Limited (MTN PLC) to develop a comprehensive Myanmar National Fiber Backbone through multiple projects various Routes (via >500 km, >1200 km, and >1500 km) and Business Development and Project management for a Fiber Network Sale and Infrastructure Leasing Services. Clients for this work included Ooredoo Myanmar Ltd, Eager Communications Group (ECG) and Telenor Myanmar Ltd. This involved an intensive collaboration with business development and technical teams to secure contracts with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Our team further coordinated with regulatory administrations to navigate the complexities of shared infrastructure services models and regulations for the custom build of Shared Metro Fiber networks and Mobile Network Roll-Out connecting to tower sites and network nodes. The project management team meticulously oversaw the construction of all routes, ensuring adherence to Right of Way, HSEE, QA/QC standards and engaging with local communities to secure their support

The team also undertook additional significant projects from 2015 to 2018, developing over 500 km of shared metro fiber networks in Yangon, Myanmar. Our team's ability to secure leases with various mobile operators, ISPs, tower companies, banks, and corporate clients underscores the team’s experience and capabilities for versatility and sustainable market reach. Further, In partnership with Myanmar Telecommunications Network Public Company Limited (MTN PLC), the team developed the Yangon to Dawei to Htee Khee Railway Fiber Project from 2020 to 2021 for Metro Fiber Backbone >500 km. This project involved creating a business model and pricing plans for MTN's fiber network and infrastructure leasing services. Despite political instability delaying the project, the innovative revenue-sharing model demonstrates our ability to adapt to dynamic business environments.

Our work on the Shan State Rural Broadband project from 2020 to 2023 highlights our commitment to bridging the Digital Divide in rural conflict areas. Our team secured licenses, rights of way, and investments to build and operate rural fiber infrastructures, LTE TDD 2600MHz FWA, FTTH, and Wi-Fi broadband services. Despite challenges posed by COVID-19 and political instability, we successfully installed networks in three towns and five villages. Although political instability led to our withdrawal in 2023, this project reflects our resilience and dedication to providing essential connectivity in underserved regions.

Through these varied and challenging projects, our team has developed a wealth of experience in fiber network development, business management, regulatory coordination, and community engagement. This extensive background positions us to deliver exceptional results for future projects, leveraging our proven expertise and collaborative spirit. The successful execution of the projects valued at about $25 million USD has resulted in infrastructures and service models that continue to be commercially viable today.
