Leonard Mabele is a seasoned technology leader on various connectivity and digital access projects in Kenya and Africa. He has previously worked closely with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on last-mile wireless networks based on TV White Spaces (TVWS) where he was the co-lead of the validation studies that saw Kenya publish the regulatory framework. He has also led Gap Analysis studies on Spectrum Sharing in Kenya and Coexistence studies for Wi-Fi 6E in the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi.
He is presently leading feasibility studies on Non-Public Networks (NPN) for potential deployments of Private 5G networks. Leonard has also been involved in the developments of the Open Fiber Data Standard working with Open Data Services and Mozilla in Kenya including the hosting of the first ever Fibre Summit in Kenya. He has also led International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU’s) Connect2Recover (now Partner2Connect) studies, evaluating gaps on dark fiber in the Western region of Kenya. Leonard has also been involved in last-mile network studies based on fiber and LEO satellite technology in both Benin and Rwanda.
At Wireless Planet, Leonard leads the business and the team as well as the track on last-mile network study models and deployment of rural digital hubs to bridge the rural Digital Divide in Kenya and East Africa.
